    Job Description

    Why this role exists:

At GOG, we build for gamers who care about preservation, community and nostalgia. Our mission is bold: make games live forever. We maintain and evolve Store and Galaxy backend services for performance and reliability while designing the next generation of APIs, data flows, and integrations that bring community and preservation features to life for millions of players.

We’re looking for people who want to understand the full product loop — from data pipelines and experimentation, through frontend delivery, to the player experience itself. If you’re curious about expanding your craft into data, frontend, or product domains, there’s room to grow and real projects that encourage it.

What success looks like in the first 6–12 months:

    • Deliver performant, maintainable PHP services and features that enable community & preservation initiatives (Dreamlist engagement, user-generated content pipelines, review/curation flows).
    • Have a direct voice in product decisions — shaping not just how things are built, but what gets built.
    • Consistently leave the codebase cleaner, more efficient, and easier to maintain (apply the scout rule).
    • Strengthen collaboration with frontend, data and product teams by helping define clear, practical interfaces and workflows.
    • Contribute to the evolution and consistency of the design system by building reusable, high-quality components aligned with it.

    Responsibilities:

    What you’ll do day-to-day:

    • Design, build, and optimize PHP services and APIs for community & preservation initiatives (Dreamlist, User Generated Content, review systems).
    • Use data and experiments (A/B tests, analytics events) to validate impact and prioritize work; ensure clean event contracts and reliable data flow.
    • Collaborate closely with frontend, data, product, and design; influence both implementation and product direction.
    • Own feature delivery end-to-end: technical discovery, implementation, code review, instrumentation, and iteration.
    • Share knowledge, mentor, and raise the bar for frontend craft and product thinking.

    Job Requirements:

    Technical depth

    • 6+ years in backend development; strong PHP, MySQL, and experience with Docker, RabbitMQ, and Kubernetes (k8s).
    • 2+ years of hands-on Symfony (3.4 → 7.4) including Doctrine ORM and practical experience maintaining and evolving large Symfony codebases.
    • Experience working in and improving established/legacy codebases while shipping new features safely and iteratively.
    • Solid understanding of software architecture and design patterns, including CQRS and Hexagonal Architecture.
    • Proven experience with application caching strategies using Redis and Varnish for scalability and low-latency APIs.
    • Skilled in writing integration and functional tests with PHPUnit and Behat, focusing on reliability, automation, and CI integration.
    • Understanding of scalable architectures (microservices, modular monoliths) and high-availability environments.
    • Comfortable with Git, CI/CD, and agile workflows; proactive in improving build pipelines and deployment reliability.

    Product & mindset

    • Strong product sense: think beyond code, empathize with gamers, and care about outcomes.
    • Comfortable with experimentation (A/B testing, analytics) and fast, iterative delivery.
    • Balance short-term fixes with long-term code health.
    • Deep backend expertise plus curiosity to grow into product discovery, frontend collaboration or data.

    Key challenges:

    • Preservation projects: craft features that activate and celebrate “Make Games Live Forever.”
    • Finest Editions & Preservation Program: support unique GOG editions and restoration efforts.
    • User-Generated Content: enable players to contribute reviews and other content.
    • Store ↔ Galaxy continuity: help experiences feel connected and consistent across surfaces.
    • Manage and iteratively reduce technical debt while delivering modern solutions.

    Pluses:

    • Experience with online community platforms or content contribution features.
    • Passion for games and game preservation.
    • Active use of AI tools in daily development workflows and enthusiasm for increasing team adoption.

    What we offer:

    • Competitive Salary: 18 000 - 27 000 PLN / month.
    • Chance to shape the future of gaming; work on a global, creative business.
    • Hybrid work model — being in the office at least two days a week is an essential part of collaboration.
    • Health & wellness perks: private healthcare and sports activity packages.
    • Paid Menstrual Leave for menstruating employees.
    • Inclusive & diverse workplace; social perks, team events, free coffee/tea/fruit, in-house cantina.
    • 24/7 access to in-house gym for employees.
    • Unlimited access to all GOG games (including The Witcher & Cyberpunk 2077).
    • Dog-friendly office and free parking on campus.
    • Relocation Package to help candidates moving from abroad.
    • Speak Up! Policy
