Job Description

With multiple awards to our name, Larian Studios has proven that we’re dedicated to delivering high-quality role-playing games. As we move on to new projects, the studio that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking for a Senior Lighting Artist to join the team and help us in crafting the high calibre games our fans have come to expect.

Responsibilities

  • Create compelling and stylistically consistent lighting for in-game environments and cinematics in collaboration with the art director, art leads and the cinematic team.
  • Ensure consistency in lighting across various scenes and locations, balancing artistic goals with gameplay clarity and technical performance.
  • Set the visual benchmark for lighting across the project, working under the Art Director in collaboration with the Technical Art team to define workflows, tools, and standards.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize lighting scenes to maintain high visual fidelity within performance budgets on multiple platforms.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level lighting artists, helping them grow and uphold the studio’s quality standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years experience working on lighting for real-time environments and cinematics, preferably in AAA game development, with at least one shipped title on PC or console.
  • A strong portfolio or showreel showcasing expert-level lighting for real-time environments and cinematics, demonstrating a solid grasp of light, color, composition, mood, and storytelling.
  • Advanced experience with lighting workflows in a real-time engine (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity, or proprietary engines).
  • Deep understanding of PBR pipelines, real-time rendering constraints, and the interaction of lighting with materials and post-processing effects.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines in multiple studios.
  • Willingness to work full-time on-site at our Barcelona studio.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of color grading, tone mapping, and post-processing effects.
  • Experience in non-realtime lighting workflows, e.g. film post production.
  • Background in photography, cinematography, or fine arts.
  • Leadership experience or prior mentorship roles within an art team.

What we offer

  • An international team of over 500 employees spread across 7 studios around the world, each of which have their own unique qualities, and maintain a small-studio feel.
  • An open, collaborative environment where ideas are welcome and encouraged.
  • A managerial team consisting of highly experienced game developers at the top of their fields.
  • Sharing hobbies and passions with like-minded colleagues.
  • Inclusive environment with many activities organized by the studios or the employees.
  • Commitment to making the best game possible for the fans, including listening to community feedback.
