Job Description

RubyPlay is a place where passion meets competence. Since 2017, we’ve made more than 200 innovative games and built more than 100 strong partnerships globally!

Proud to be:

  • The Winner at BFTH Arena Awards — Best Online Casino Game
  • Shortlisted for SBC Awards 2024 — Casino/Slots Developer of the Year
  • A strong player on 10+ markets globally
  • Beloved workplace for hundreds of specialists from 34 countries

We are now growing our team and looking for driven professionals ready to build their careers in a strong, international studio with a product that’s making waves worldwide.

Position:

  • Head of Games Engineering

Department:

  • Engineering Team

Employment Type:

  • Full Time

Workplace type:

  • Fully remote

Location (as listed):

  • Sliema (Remote)

Reporting to:

  • Ian Dimech

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all game development across multiple in-house studios and 40+ engineers, ensuring the tech behind every game is scalable, sustainable, and player-ready.
  • Manage and develop a group of 6–8 Game Dev Leads, supporting them in hiring, growing teams, and executing at high velocity across studios and markets.
  • Own the development roadmap and technical strategy, aligning engineering practices with company-wide product and business objectives.
  • Scale systems, CI/CD, incident management, and delivery flows that support live games and new launches — at pace and with quality.
  • Work closely with Art, Animation, Math, Product, Compliance and Platform teams to ensure alignment, reduce rework, and accelerate value delivery.
  • Identify and implement modern tools, architectures, and workflows that enhance development speed, game quality, and maintainability.

Success Metrics You’ll Own:

  • Accuracy and consistency in project planning and on-time delivery
  • Game stability and quality post-release
  • Proactive issue detection and resolution before reaching production
  • Positive engagement and retention within engineering teams
  • Effective process, tooling, and workflow improvements over time

What Makes You A Strong Candidate:

  • 7+ years in game development (ideally iGaming), 5+ years leading technical teams, including managers. You’ve launched dozens of products — and still want to build better ones.
  • Strong in TypeScript/JavaScript (ES6+), Pixi.js, Node.js, Git, with knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, observability (Sentry, Grafana), and modern pipelines.
  • You know when to architect for scale and when to ship for impact. You balance speed and quality, using metrics, feedback, and solid engineering principles.
  • You develop managers, set vision, and create psychological safety. You coach through ambiguity and empower teams to take ownership.
  • You understand slot mechanics, compliance constraints, and player psychology. Familiarity with math models, RGS platforms, or regulatory frameworks is a plus.

Why You’ll Love It Here (Benefits):

  • Work with a high-talent team that cares about quality and ownership
  • Influence strategy at scale, across studios and global markets
  • Remote/hybrid-friendly environment with modern workflows and strong culture
  • Growth budgets, bonuses, English lessons, and development days
  • Paid vacation, well-being support, and an actual work-life balance
