Job Description:

As an Technical animator at Ubisoft Ukraine, you will be responsible for designing and building versatile rigging systems that support high-quality character, weapon, skins and prop animation in Rainbow Six Siege. Working closely with animators and 3D artists, you’ll ensure the animation pipeline is efficient, robust, and meets both artistic and gameplay requirements. Your expertise in rigging will play a key role in bringing the game’s characters and props to life, contributing to the immersive and realistic experience Rainbow Six Siege is known for.

Responsibilities:

  • Based on the models provided by character artists, carry out character rigging and skinning to meet the needs of the project’s animators, technical directors, and art directors.
  • Adjust the skeleton whenever necessary.
  • Create and use tools to increase quality and effectiveness of game-ready assets and incorporate them into the project’s game engine through close collaboration with the animation TD while being able to assess the relevance of tool implementation.
  • Coach artists on ways to adapt their work to better suit the animation and the art director’s vision.
  • Configure the ragdolls (procedural animations with physics engine).
  • Help determine expectations with the art director by demonstrating tangible impacts of his vision and/or vision changes.
  • Ensure good use of project’s naming convention.
  • Ensure that rigging/skinning results meets the project’s artistic standards.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in video game industry as a rigger, technical animator or other relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of the game pipeline.
  • Strong knowledge of the following tools: 3DS Max, Motion Builder.
  • Strong knowledge in skinning, bones placement, IK, and human anatomy to ensure realistic deformation and minimal clipping.
  • Strong knowledge in mechanical rigging.
  • Good knowledge of topology and ability to update 3D models to fit animation needs.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking and communication skills.
  • A collaborative mindset with the initiative to propose and implement improvements.
  • Ability to lead by example and support peers through knowledge sharing and documentation.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced and evolving technical environment.
  • Sense of aesthetics.
  • Functional English proficiency (both spoken and written), with the ability to present and explain your work.
