The next great challenge is coming:
As a Middle / Senior SDET / Tools Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain engineering tools used across the project. Your work spans Unreal Engine 5 (C++) and pipeline/DCC tooling (Python), with a focus on creating reliable, scalable solutions that improve development workflows.
You will also contribute to our in-house test automation framework, develop automated tests for your tools, and collaborate closely with engineers, artists, designers, and QA to improve the production pipeline.
Unlike a pure SDET role, this position covers the full tooling ecosystem — editor tools, pipeline systems, validation frameworks, and automation infrastructure.
Superpowers you have:
Strong knowledge of modern C++
Experience developing tools in Unreal Engine 5 (plugins, editor tools, UMG/Slate or Dear ImGui, reflection system, editor scripting)
Understanding of Unreal Engine systems such as rendering pipeline, LOD/HLOD, Nanite, Lumen, World Partition, and profiling tools
Good Python skills (pipeline scripting, CLI tools, automation, pytest is a plus)
Experience working with Perforce (p4)
Experience integrating REST APIs and working with JSON
Understanding of software architecture and maintainable tooling design
Good understanding of 3D production pipelines (LODs, materials, draw calls, collision)
Middle level: 2+ years of software development experience
Senior level: 4+ years of software development experience with hands-on Unreal Engine experience on shipped or live projects
You'll stand out if you have:
Experience with Blender, Maya, or Substance Painter scripting
Houdini (SOPs / PDG)
CI/CD experience (GitLab CI, Jenkins)
C# / .NET
Test automation frameworks (unit, integration, E2E)
Visual testing or screenshot comparison systems
AI-assisted development tools (LLM APIs, automation, log analysis)
Jira/TestRail integration
Render programming (HLSL, RDG) or Chaos physics
Becoming part of Room 8 Group, you will:
Design, develop, and maintain UE5 editor plugins and Python pipeline tools
Build tools that improve productivity across development teams
Contribute to the in-house automation framework and develop automated tests for your tools
Integrate tools with Perforce, REST APIs, and JSON-based services
Improve tooling architecture, reliability, and maintainability
Troubleshoot complex technical issues related to Unreal Engine, pipelines, and automation
Collaborate with artists, designers, QA, gameplay, and engine teams to identify and deliver tooling solutions
Participate in code reviews and help maintain high engineering standards
Senior engineers will also mentor teammates and support technical decision-making within the team
