3D Artist Jobs in Game Dev - Gamedev 3D Positions
A 3D artist in the games industry is responsible for the visual side of production - from modelling characters and environments to creating textures and materials and integrating assets into the engine. Game art is where technique and artistry meet daily: you build a highpoly model, bake the normal map, paint textures in Substance Painter, and check how everything reads in-engine. The job involves close collaboration with technical artists and programmers - every asset must work within the poly and texture budget set by the target platform.
Today's game dev 3D artist market requires proficiency in at least one 3D package (Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max), Substance Painter as the texturing standard, and ZBrush for character and organic sculpting. Studios in Warsaw and other major Polish cities also look for PBR workflow knowledge, real-time mesh optimisation, and LOD creation. Increasingly, job listings also ask for rigging basics or VFX skills (Houdini, Niagara, VFX Graph).
Career progression starts at junior 3D artist, working on smaller environmental assets or character elements under art direction. At mid level you own complete asset sets or character builds independently. A senior 3D artist has a clear specialisation profile - character artist, environment artist, hard surface modeller, or VFX artist - setting technical and quality standards for the team. Art Director and Art Lead roles represent the top of this career path.
WorkPlays is where game studios come to find 3D artists for their projects - from small indie productions to AA titles and VR/AR projects. Game art listings are categorised so you can filter quickly by specialisation. Enable notifications and you won't miss an opening that matches your profile.
